Agropolychim and Ecofol: A Step Forward in Supporting Modern Agriculture
Agropolychim plans to acquire a 50% equity stake in its key commercial partner, Ecofol. In this regard, the company submitted a notification of the upcoming transaction to the Commission for Protection of Competition on June 19, 2025. Through this step, the two companies are laying a solid foundation for the accelerated development of innovative solutions supporting Bulgarian agriculture.
The commercial partnership between Agropolychim and Ecofol began in 2022 and has already proven its strength through the joint production and supply of treated (inhibited) nitrogen fertilizers. These fertilizers ensure crops’ prolonged nutrient uptake and reduce the loss of active ingredients. This results in lower emissions of nitrogen compounds into the atmosphere and groundwater, in line with the European Union’s established environmental protection goals.
Strategic Objectives and Market Impact
By combining Agropolychim’s leadership in soil fertilization with Ecofol’s longstanding expertise in foliar nutrition, farmers will access comprehensive, precision fertilization solutions tailored to the needs of various crops, soil types, and climatic conditions. Both companies’ agronomy and commercial teams will join forces to enhance farmers’ knowledge and skills, focusing on training, demonstration fields, consultations, and the promotion of best fertilization practices. Тhe sales structures in Bulgaria and Romania will be having common objectives, with the aim of expanding the geographical reach of the joint operations.
The transaction also aims to raise farmers’ awareness of the benefits of using treated fertilizers. Better understanding and adoption of these technologies lead not only to higher yields but also to cost optimization and a reduced environmental footprint.
The corporate integration of the two companies will allow for the further expansion of Ecofol’s production capacity, particularly in the segment of treated fertilizers, through access to Agropolychim’s industrial base in Devnya. Proximity to the port terminal will improve logistics, lower production costs, and enhance the price competitiveness of Ecofol’s products.
Based on Ecofol’s active communication with farmers, the planned integration will enable faster collection of feedback from field practice, which will be used to develop new products tailored to the needs of specific crops and regions. This will accelerate the advancement of R&D activities within the new corporate structure.
The transaction represents not just a corporate move, but a strategic response to the needs of Bulgarian agriculture—at a time when the challenges of climate change, market dynamics, and environmental regulations call for a new approach to crop care, with the goal of ensuring the long-term stability of the agricultural sector and safeguarding food security.
