Agropolychim offers low-carbon Ammonium Nitrate made with renewable electricity supplied by ENERGO-PRO
Agropolychim offers low-carbon ammonium nitrate made by combining three decarbonisation solutions: certified low-carbon blue ammonia, renewable electricity supplied by ENERGO-PRO, and a bio-based, water-soluble anti-caking agent.
The initiative is the result of a strategic partnership between Agropolychim and ENERGO-PRO Energy Services. Under the agreement, ENERGO-PRO supplies Agropolychim’s fertilizer plant in Devnya with 100% renewable electricity.
The collaboration reflects the shared commitment of both companies to accelerating industrial decarbonisation and advancing more sustainable agriculture. It also builds on Agropolychim’s long-term strategy to reduce the carbon footprint of mineral fertilizers. The company was the first in Europe to introduce certified low-carbon blue ammonia into its production process.
Blue ammonia is produced from natural gas using carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies that capture and permanently store the carbon emissions generated during production. This enables Agropolychim to use a feedstock with a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to conventionally produced ammonia.
Two additional elements have now been integrated into this production concept: 100% renewable electricity and a bio-based, water-soluble anti-caking agent designed to meet anticipated future EU sustainability requirements.
Agropolychim’s ambition is to make decarbonisation an accessible choice for every farmer rather than a process limited to large industrial companies. The company is therefore applying its carbon reduction strategy to ammonium nitrates – its most widely used nitrogen fertilizer – helping reduce carbon emissions across the entire value chain, from raw materials and manufacturing to agricultural use, distribution and the end customer.

Our partnership with ENERGO-PRO enables us to build on the progress already achieved through the use of blue ammonia and take the next step in developing fertilizers with an even lower carbon footprint,” said Teodor Petsov, Production Director at Agropolychim.
In 2023, Agropolychim received Europe’s first commercial shipment of blue ammonia, and at the end of 2025 the company reinforced its commitment to sustainable production with a new certified supply.
